The Door

“Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger

or discipline me in your wrath.

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;

heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.

My soul is in deep anguish.

How long, Lord, how long?

 Turn, Lord, and deliver me;

save me because of your unfailing love.

 Among the dead no one proclaims your name.

Who praises you from the grave?

 I am worn out from my groaning.

All night long I flood my bed with weeping

and drench my couch with tears.

 My eyes grow weak with sorrow;

they fail because of all my foes.

 Away from me, all you who do evil,

for the Lord, has heard my weeping.

 The Lord has heard my cry for mercy;

the Lord accepts my prayer.

 All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish;

they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.”

Psalm 6

David was a man in anguish. When he was in the pit of despair he reached out to God.

He trusted his Heavenly Father.

We can too.

Our foes are our temptations to follow our selfish desires.

To let the devil, take over and torment us.

So…

“Put on the full Armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full Armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Ephesians 6:10-18

Our God is always there, standing by us in our torment.

Sometimes we don’t see that he cares.

We forget that he sent his son to die for us.

That he to, has endured great suffering.

Every time his children turn away, ignore him, and slam the door in his face.

Jesus is one who can open this door. God sent him.

To make a way for us to come back to him.

Into his arms, accepting his offer of grace.

Jesus said;

“I tell you the truth; anyone who will not receive the

kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15

When we come to God as his children we relinquish control of our lives.

“We know that all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Let him in. You will see.

He does care.

True Light

"In him was light and that light was the light of men. 

The light shines in the darkness, 

but the darkness has not understood it." 

(John 1:4-5)

Isn't it frustrating when the light goes out.

When that happens we try to repair what has broken. 

When we don't succeed we search 

for the right battery,charger, 

or some other source of power. 

Often we fail to find it.

We try to sort things out ourselves, 

and, frequently, that just creates more problems. 

Jesus, is our light.

He is the one light that outshines all the worldly ones.

Those dim and flickering lights of  worldly wisdom,
and the senseless struggle for  perfection and satisfaction.

Indeed, these are poor replacements 

for the true light. Our saviour;

the light or men. 

For without his light we are blind,

fumbling round in the dark. 

The good news is that the devil 

will never be able to understand it.

Never be able to overcome it.

Never be able to extinguish it.

The choice we face with is this; 

Will we commit to letting the true light of men 

permeate into every part of our lives?

For if we do, we will have a joy 

that cannot be shaken. 

It will be as C.S Lewis once said;

"Here is joy that cannot be shaken.

Our light can swallow up your darkness:

but your darkness cannot now infect our light."
